Archeological Site at St. Pierre’s Cathedral: “Impressive”

The biggest archeological site under a cathedral in Europa. A visit takes you back in the time. The first monument on the site was for a pagan hero, afterwards a church was constructed on the grave of the pagan hero. Lots of different remnants are visible. I especially enjoyed the mosaic floor of the bishop.

Bel’Esperance: “Simple B&B for a good price”

When you are looking for a simple, no frills place to stay in Genève, this is good value for money. We stayed for three nights. Breakfast was decent, although I missed some eggs. Only the first day we found some hard boiled eggs at the buffet. The buffet offered a limited choice, but everything was nice and fresh.

The room was ok. The bathroom was basic but the shower was very good, nice hot water and the water pressure was very good! The last day of our stay room keeping forgot to give us clean towels, but we quickly got new ones.

It was a bit too hot in our room. We couldn’t switch off the radiator because the control was broken. We mentioned this the first evening at the reception, but they couldn’t get the problem fixed, which was too bad. We had to sleep with the windows open to get the room cooler. Because of the open windows we had some noise from the bell tower of the church nearby.

Location was very good, close to the lake and on the edge of the old town. Very nice to go for a walk in the evening.

CERN Univers de particules: “Inspiring”

CERN is a place where scientists search everyday for the secrets of our universe. This exhibition gives you more information about the research that is taking place using multitouch screens. The multitouch screens didn’t always work very good, but is was great to see the first webserver (the internet came to be at CERN). The movie that is shown in the Dome is the best part of the exhibition. On different screens the tale of the big bang and the Higgs Boson particle is told.

Hotel Nicolas: “Lovely stay in the “Westhoek”

We booked a room in Hotel Nicolas and a table in Hostellerie st Nicolas to celebrate my birthday. We booked the smallest room, which was very lovely with a big and comfy bed, a big shower and a fridge with free champagne, jay! We dropped off our luggage at noon and got a little tour of the house and some explanation about the facilities.

We used the shower and the lovely bathing products (different products for men and women) before going to dinner. To get in the right mood, we drank the little bottle of champagne, which was excellent. After a copious meal at the hostellerie we returned to the hotel for a good night sleep. The hotel is situated at walking distance from the restaurant.

Breakfast was absolutely wonderful. For only 18 euro we got a multicourse meal, with homemade paté, ham, jam, cheese from the region, delicious scrambled eggs, fresh fruit salad, yoghurt, lots of bread and pastry. It was just too much. Everything was super fresh and presented with the greatest care. The lady of the house herself brought the food at our table, which made us feel very welcome.

I’m sorry to read that leysfi had a bad experience caused by the overbooking. We also booked by e-mail and had no problems whatsoever. We really enjoyed our stay here.

Maison Tavel: “Learn about the history of Geneva”

A very old house which tells the story of how Geneva came to be. The city model on the top floor is a great place to start your visit of this museum. The multimedia presentation on the ground floor showed how the city grew. Really interesting.

In Flanders Fields Museum: “Recently renewed”

This museum tells the harrowing story of the first world wore which devastated the Westhoek region and destroyed numerous lives of young men, children almost. The museum uses modern technology to show the hardship of war. An absolute must see when you visit Ipres.
