Kjallarinn: “Great dining experience”

My boyfriend and I had a lovely evening in this superb restaurant. We went for the exotic menu: ‘a five course roller coaster ride for the taste buds’ as was specified by the menu. This turned out to be very true indeed. Each course was presented with much attention to detail and tasted delicious. Especially loved the langoustines. The lamb was very tender and the tuna was perfect. Finishing of with a crème brûlée was just perfection. I had a glass of excellent chardonnay with my meal.

Staff was also very friendly and professional. Our waitress had a great sense of humor and we felt very at ease and welcome.

The interior of the restaurant is very cosy and can accomodate larger groups without it feeling crowded (there were about eight people at the tabel next to us). I was not a big fan of the black glasses which were used to serve the water. You couldn’t see if the glas was full or empty.

I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Ramen Momo: “Lovely noodle place”

This little restaurant in Reykjavik really reminded me of the noodle bars in Japan. Everything felt really authentic although the owner is Tibetan. I didn’t had to wait longer than five minutes before my udon noodles arrived. They were great.

Perfect place for a cheap, quick and healthy bite to eat.

Cafe Novo: “Very bad experience”

It was a sunny day in Brussels so we went with a bunch of colleagues for a quick lunch. Since we had enjoyed lunching in the garden of café Novo before, we decided to go there to have lunch outside. We were seven persons in total. Not a very big group, but the waitress asked us non the less to only order three different dishes.

From the start it was clear that the waitress didn’t have much experience. She started by bringing me the wrong drink. But ok, my drink got switched for the right one, so no big deal. We ordered two home made burgers, a sandwich with carpaccio, a falafel salad and a carrot soup (ok, so technically those are four different dishes, but we figured that the soup would be made in advance, so no extra hassle for the cook).

The waitress warned us that the sandwich could take some time. We were a little bit surprised by that, because, honestly, how long does it take to make a sandwich with carpaccio? Did they forget to bake the bread this morning? We joked a bit about it and waited for our food to arrive, meanwhile sipping from our drinks. My colleagues who ordered the home made ice-tea were very disappointed. The ice-tea was bright yellow and did not taste good.

One hour and a half later, we still didn’t have any food. We were by that time all very hungry and didn’t find it funny anymore. So when our food finally arrived (with no excuses whatsoever for taking this long), we were surprised to find that indeed the carpaccio sandwich still wasn’t ready.

Because we were all so hungry, we started eating, thinking the sandwich would arrive any moment. Sadly, the falafel salad I ordered was really terrible. The falafel was very dry, like eating sand. And there wasn’t enough salad on the plate. I finished my plate, since I was that hungry, but did not enjoy it at all. The home made burger and soup seemed to be better.

A quarter of an hour later, we had all finished, except for my poor colleague who ordered the sandwich. Since we were all running very late, he told the waitress to cancel the order and we left without him having eaten anything. An absolute disgrace.

Service at Novo was absolutely terrible. Never before have a been to a café or restaurant where one of the persons just didn’t get any food without any form of apology or compensation.

Personally I will never set food in this café again and I strongly advice against eating here.

Bratislava Old Town: “Very beautiful with lovely colours”

Really enjoyed walking the cobblestone streets of Bratislava. Such beautiful houses, breathing history and great spots to eat and drink. The historic center isn’t very big, so you can discover it on food, since most of the streets are pedestrians only. On sunny days you can enjoy your drink outside in the sun. Atmosphere is very nice.

Hradna Hviezda: “Very nice lunch with traditional food”

Loved our lunch at Hradna Hviezda. Food was excellent and the waiter gave us some great recommendations. Loved my glass of wine also. The food isn’t cheap, but location is key in this case. How nice it is to dine in a real castle. Really loved the atmosphere. Can definitely recommend this restaurant, you won’t be disappointed.

St Elizabeth’s / Blue Church: “Very unusual church”

Absolutely worth the visit. What a beautiful site to behold! I really couldn’t imagine the church would be this blue, on the outside as well as on the inside. Very beautiful indeed. Go and see it for yourself!

Bratislava Castle (Hrad): “Impressive view”

This castle is an absolute must see when you visit Bratislava. Beautiful view on the Danube and the old city center. The castle is very well restored (it burned down in 1811). The insides are not really spectacular, but we enjoyed a temporary exhibition “From the shadow to the light” which was very good. The grand staircase was very beautiful though and the view from the Crown tower is worth paying the entrance fee.

Karlskirche: “Gorgeous baroque church”

Definitely worth the visit. Absolutely gorgeous place with amazing paintings. Since they are renovating the church, it is possible to take an elevator to the top of the dome so you can enjoy the beautiful artwork up close. Do not hesitate to take the elevator, you won’t regret it. If you aren’t afraid of hights you can climb even further up, to the lantern. The view is not worth it, but it is an exciting climb nonetheless. This church is an exquisite piece of architecture.

Palmenhaus: “Beautiful location”

Palmenhaus is absolutely gorgeous. Although it was warm enough to eat on the terras, we prefered sitting inside to enjoy the beautiful greenhouse with the plants. Absolutely a top location to have lunch. I had asparagus with salmon and my boyfriend chose a Wiener Schnitzel. Food was ok, but nothing special. The food arrived rather quickly which made me think it was just heated. Service was friendly and correct.
