Hotel De Zeeuwse Kust: “Great hotel for families with children in a beautiful environment”

We had the pleasure of staying in this beautiful hotel not long after it opened. Everything was brand new and clean. We really enjoyed our rooms, which were large and full of light. Really loved that the room was decorated with a gorgeous photograph of the surrounding nature.

The room also had a small kitchen to prepare food and a separate small bedroom with a bunk bed for the children. We stayed at the ground floor, which was very convenient. You could go outsight trough the door or though the nice big window at the other side of the room. Bathroom was excellent, with a fantastic rain shower. Really loved it!

Breakfast in the main building of the Park was excellent. Lots of choice (English and continental breakfast) and fresh squeezed orange juice! Loved the ‘poffertjes’, a Dutch specialty, the fresh fruit and the scrambled eggs.

The grounds of the hotel were great too. Beautiful (and safe) playgrounds with wooden constructions for the children to play on. The hotel is just a short walk away from the beach and offers the possibility to hire bikes, a great way to explore the beauty of this lovely island.

Only remark I’ve got: the changing facilities for the pool were small and not very clean. I also found the pool itself not that great, but to be fair: the children loved it.

Highly recommend this hotel for families with children. Would definitely stay here again.

Muntpunt Grand Cafe: “Nice terrace, decent food”

This is a lovely place to have lunch on the terrace on a sunny day. When you sit inside though, the restaurant can be very chilly especially when you are sitting close to the very large, impractical (but beautiful) doors.

Food is ok. Quality varies depending on the dish you choose. I recommend trying one of the daily specials. Recently I had a great salad with spring rolls (rolls made of rice paper, carpaccio and vegetables). I must say I was pleasantly surprised by this dish. The best I’ve had in this place up to date.

Staff is friendly, but not very attentive (you sometimes have to jump through hoops to get their attention).

Pino: “Great Italian restaurant, albeit a bit expensive”

We had a lovely evening with friends in this beautiful restaurant in Overijse. Staff was very friendly and really attentive. Dishes were excellent. Very high quality of food and you could taste everything was fresh.

Really loved my asparagus with carpaccio and the risotto was also nice, although not exceptional. My only remark is that the prices are rather high. 20 euro for a starter is the norm. Didn’t get to try the house wine, because I was the designated driver.

Would definitely come back, though.

Resto Theatre National: “Excellent place for a quick and healthy lunch”

To find this restaurant you need to go to the second floor of the Theatre National, situated at the Emile Jacqmainlaan. I go there often for lunch with colleagues.

For 12 euro you can enjoy the all you can eat buffet with a large selection of mediterranean inspired dishes. Really love the selection in the cold buffet with the houmous, that lovely spinach dish and all the different kind of vegetables.

The warm buffet offers two different courses, which are ok, but not as great as the cold buffet. The buffet is all you can eat. Most of the time I just go for two plates of the cold buffet. Really a nice place for vegetarians and for everybody who enjoys a quick and healthy lunch.

De Markten Cafe: “Beautiful terrace”

De Markten is a place I mostly visit in summer time. When the weather is nice, the big terrace beneath the beautiful trees is an ideal place for a quick lunch with colleagues. Food is simple but decent. Do try the recommendations which change often. Also a lovely place to just have some drinks with friends. The service can be a bit chaotic, but the prices are low, so definitely worth your money.
