Mongo’s Restaurant Dusseldorf: “Great concept!”

Mongo’s is a concept restaurant nearby Medienhafen situated in a beautiful modern building with lots of glass. The concept is easy: you can go for the all you can eat option or just pay by weight. You choose the sauce you like, go to the buffet and help yourself to the ingredients you like in you dish which the cooks will wok for you. The buffet offers a diverse selection of meat and fish, with some exotic choices as kangaroo, ostrich or even camel. You can rest assured that everybody will find something to their liking. I also tried the meat soup, which was excellent. If you’re into trying something different, I can recommend the insect starter. Really good and great for taking pictures.

Mongo’s also offer a nice selection of cocktails and other beverages. We tried the rhabalaya, a drink from the Himalay with rhubarb nectar, wodka and vanilla. A tasty way to finish a meal.

MARUYASU Schadow Arkaden UG: “Great sushi!”

We visited Maruyasa for a quick sushi lunch. This place is run be real Japanese and offers really delicious sushi. Lines can get very long, but staff works efficiently so everyone can get there sushi treat as quickly as possible. The place itself isn’t much, you won’t feel the urge to stick around after your meal, but if you’re looking for great sushi, this is your place. You can order as many different kind of sushi as you like (also some sushi you don’t typically find in other sushi restaurants), or you can go for a combination plate. Maruyasu also offers some noodle dishes, yakitori and gyoza. Of course you can order everything to take away.

Gut & Gerne Schokolade: “Superb hot chocolate”

Great place to have a lovely cup of hot chocolate. You can choose between white chocolate or 4 different kinds of ‘real’ chocolate. I went for the ‘Zartbitter’ with a cacao percentage of 72%. A great choice! The hot chocolate was served in a beautiful big cup and tasted heavenly. They also serve coffee and tea, but why would you even consider not ordering the lovely hot chocolate? Don’t miss out on this treat, chocoholics!

There aren’t many tables, so it is possible you’ll have to wait a while before you can get seated. Hard to resist buying chocolates form the shop next door, while waiting.

Naniwa: “Cheap noodle soup”

We had to cue for a while to get seated in this Japanese noodle restaurant. It was hard to choose from the impressive range of noodle soups offered. I went for the champon ramen (with seafood). Being a ramen lover myself, I had great expectations. To be honest, those weren’t entirely met. The toppings were good (the porc was excellent and softly cooked), the noodles were ok, but the broth was disappointing. Not as tasty as in other noodle bars I’ve visited.

Naniwa offer really cheap food and the portions are huge. So if you’re looking for a cheap place to have lunch, you should go there.
