Tatsu Japanese Cuisine: “Excellent Japanese cuisine”

We ate her twice during our stay. We were very impressed by the quality and authenticity of the food. The first time we took a course meal which was absolutely delicious. In the weekend, you can have an ‘all you can eat’ menu. You can choose from all kinds of different menu-items the ones you prefer and as much as you like. Definitely worth a visit!

A tip for management: the airco is set to a very low temperature. I had to put on an extra jacket to not be cold.

Obsession Of India: “Superb Indian food”

We were passing through Glasgow on a Saturday evening, so naturally most of the restaurants were fully booked. Since we had no reservations we just had to hope for the best. When entering Obsession of India we could see the restaurant was very busy, but decided to give it a try anyway.

I have to say the restaurant owner was very gracious and helpful. Clearly he could have sent us away, but instead he offered to make room for us in the back of the restaurant, on the condition that we had to finish our meal in an hour and a half. No problem for us, the smells emanating from all the lovely dishes around us was so mouth watering, that we were sure we could finish our meal in time.

We ordered chicken milky karahi, chicken shahi karahi, chicken smoke karahi and methi gosht with nan. The food arrived very quickly at our table and I must say I was very impressed with our dishes. Honestly some of the best Indian food I have had in my life (and I’ve tried a lot of Indian food). The dishes were lovely presented and very tasty.

Highly recommended if you like Indian food.

La Saga des Géants – Royal de Luxe

And now for something completely different, because this blog is all about experiences that are unforgettable. And boy, those Giants sure left their mark on Geneva this weekend. It was fortunate that two out of the three days of their visit, the weather was really nice. So people came out in droves to look at those enormous, yet endearing creatures. My personal favorite was the Grand-Ma Giant, who didn’t shy away of just taking a squat in the middle of the road and let it all flow. To the delight of all the children standing around me.

But what am I talking about? Here are some pictures and movies!

Hats off to Royal de Luxe which created such a marvelous and mythical spectacle.

Ardshiel Restaurant: “Lovely classic food”

Had a great dinner at Ardshiel Hotel. The food was rather classic, but clearly prepared with a lot of care. The turbot I ordered was perfectly cooked and I loved the fact that the vegetables were served separately so everybody on the table could pick what they liked. The crumble I had as dessert was really just the perfect way to end the meal. Very good!

The ambiance in the dining area is very nice. I loved the fact that the ceiling is decorated with whisky bottles, illuminated by blue lights. Gave a modern feel to the classic interior. It was a bit chilly where we originally sat, because the door to the kitchen area swung open lots of times. But not to worry, we just moved to another table, which was no problem at all for the staff, who were very friendly and accommodating.

The bar also offers an excellent whisky selection, which we were very happy to try. A really great evening!

Yan’s Kitchen: “Great seafood!”

Yan’s Kitchen is a nice restaurant with big windows looking over the bay. The Chinese chef knows how to prepare seafood, so if you want to eat here, make sure you have reservations. I was so impressed by the grilled Islay hand-dived scallops that we came back to eat here for a second time. You also have to try the oysters, which are really good. My second visit, I ordered the catch of the day, and again, very, very good.

Really this place is a must visit if you like seafood. The best I had on Islay. The friendly atmosphere and the warm fireplace just add to the charm. No wonder I saw a rainbow on the first visit!

Etna Trattoria: “Lovely Sicilian food”

If you like authentic Sicilian food, you’ll love Etna Trattoria. The couple who runs this cozy restaurant in the heart of Leuven sure knows what they are doing. The beautifully tiled floors and nice bar with lots of Italian specialties give of a really authentic vibe.

The husband makes sure his clients are served well and is very helpful in explaining the menu. He also knows his wines, so do yourself a favor and enjoy a nice glass of Italian wine with your dish.

The wife is the master of the kitchen and seems to really enjoy her job. When going to the toilet in the cellar, I’ve seen her countless times singing and dancing to the music. It must be this love for the art of cooking that translates onto the plates. The Sicilian food really is a feast for the taste buds. Most of the time I just order the specialty of the day, because I’ve never been disappointed by the food they serve.

A gem of a place.

Les Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert: “Lovely Galeries”

Not to be missed! The combination of beautiful architecture and lots of chique shops makes this a must see when visiting Brussels. Chocolate lovers will be pleased to find here the highest concentration of chocolate shops in the whole of Brussels. My personal favorite: Marcolini.

This place has been photographed countless time. The symmetrie of the place is gorgeous and in the evening it is beautifully lit. Nice for some window shopping or perhaps enjoy a breakfast at Le Pain Quotidien.

I Latini: “Lovely pasta”

Place Sainte Catherine went through some changes in recent years. A nice addition are the terraces on the square, where you can enjoy lunch or dinner in summer.

Since we were with a group of ten persons it wasn’t easy finding a place for lunch. We were lucky that the terrace of Italian restaurant I Latini on the square had just opened so we were seated in a very nice spot under some trees.

The Italian waiter who took our order did this with the kind of flair you’ll expect from an Italian gentleman. My friends and I all ordered a pasta dish. We had to wait some time before our order arrived, but weren’t disappointed. The pasta was served on warm plates and perfectly cooked (as should be expected).

I had ordered the trofie al pesce spada affumicato e pesto di pistacchi. Due to the combination of smoked swordfish and pesto sauce, I found the dish a bit too salty. But otherwise, we had a lovely lunch.

Grand Casino Brussels – Viage: “Nice restaurant, too many slot machines”

Restaurant Saffron in the Viage Casino was a pleasant surprise, to be honest. Wasn’t expecting such nice food in a casino. The staff was efficient and I was really impressed by the roasted sea bream I ordered. Very good! The wonton soup I had as a starter was nice, but nothing out of the ordinary.

The menu is kind of eclectic, ranging from Asian cuisine, to traditional Belgian dishes to hamburgers. So everybody will find something to their liking. Also worth noting, this is one of the few restaurants in Brussels open until 2.30 AM. On Friday and Saturday they are even open until 3.30 AM.

You’ll need to pay an entry fee to the casino though, if you want to enjoy this restaurant. Minimum age for entering the casino is 21. The casino itself had too many slot machines to my liking. We visited on the French National Holiday and got offered some free pancakes and small appetizers.

Montagne de Bueren: “A must do when in Liège”

Very steep stairs, so when arriving at the top you’ll be out of breath (don’t forget to take a bottle of water with you). But really worth doing so when visiting Liège. It is really a must see. The view is beautiful and you’ll be proud of your own accomplishment!
