Thean Hou Temple: “Beautiful Chinese temple”

The temple is quite stunning in itself, but it is the location which makes this temple superb. The view from the terraces of the temple is gorgeous. I used a cab to get here, because there isn’t a metro station in the neighborhood.

Kuala Lumpur Bird Park: “World’s largest free-fligh walk-in aviary”

That’s the tagline of this place. It certainly is nice to walk in between the birds (although some of the storks clearly didn’t like me, the marks their beaks left in my flesh are still visible) which are so clearly used to human presence. You can approach the birds closely and even feed them if you like. The bird show is a nice feature for children, but I somewhat disliked the bigger birds (eagles, owls) locked up in cages definitely too small for those magnificent beasts.

Hotel Bero: “Nice hotel on a great location”

Location was key for me during my stay, since I was attending a conference in the Kursaal Oostende. I had a pleasant stay, though the (very large) classic room was a bit outdated. It was weird that the room had two bathrooms: one with a toilet and a shower and one with a bath and a sink. So when you wanted to wash your hands after using the toilet, you had to go to the other bathroom. The room was very clean, which is always nice.

The bed wasn’t as comfortable as should be expected from such an expensive hotel and the pillow wasn’t that great either. I slept fairly well, though. I was sorry I hadn’t the opportunity to dive into the lovely pool or use the wellness. Next time perhaps? The selection of drinks from the bar are also excellent.

Breakfast was nice. Expecting a little bit more perhaps (I don’t like my juice to come out of a machine), but enjoyed the scrambled eggs and fresh fruit salad.

Staff was professional and welcoming.

I would stay here again, but not in the classic room. I do think the rooms are a bit overpriced if you don’t use the pool or wellness facilities, but I guess the good location close to the beach makes up for that.

Nanaban: “Authentic ramen in Zaventem”

Nanaban serves excellent and authentic ramen. The service isn’t much to speak of. We had dinner outdoor and had to go and take our own ramen bowls inside. But we didn’t mind, actually, because the food is cheap. Choice is certainly limited, but the ramen is very tasty. The interior reminded us of the typical places we visited when in Japan. Ramen is Japanese fast food: quick but delicious.

Don’t go eat here when you want a romantic evening. Ideal for a quick lunch or dinner, when you don’t have too much time. The restaurant is nearby the train station of Zaventem and located on a square surrounded by other restaurants. Which is nice if you want to have a drink or desert afterwards.

Nevis Range Mountain Experience: “What a view”

You’ve got two viewpoints on Nevis Range Mountain Experience with breathtakingly beautiful views. The walks to the viewpoints are easy and the ride in the gondola up the mountain is very nice.

Beinn Bhracaigh: “Excellent breakfast!”

Nice and clean room with ensuite. The host was very friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was excellent. I had porridge with whisky and honey and eggs with salmon. More than enough to keep me going through most of the day. The breakfast room had a lovely view and we loved the concept of a ‘honesty bar’. Pitlochry is a cute little town well worth the visit and when you decide to go there, stay in Beinn Bhracaigh, you won’t regret is.

Rhu Mhor: “A special place to stay”

The rooms in Rhu Mhor are slightly dated (although the bathroom was new), but this suited the place very well. Rhu Mhor is a beautiful old house situated in a breathtakingly beautiful garden. Ian and his mother are very courteous hosts. Breakfast was delicious and at 11 pm we got served tea in the lounge (the only place with wifi). The lounge is a special room full of dolls and antique. Ian is a real scotsman proud to wear his kilt every day.

Fort William in itself isn’t that great, but we were only passing through, so we didn’t mind.

Only remark: the hallway near our room smelled of second hand tobacco smoke.
