monte d’oro: “Good food in historic building”

We would never have found this place were it not for Tripadvisor. But what a little gem! The terrace was absolutely lovely, surrounded by beautiful big trees, the sun seeping through the leaves.

My boyfriend and I both ordered the magret de canard avec miel et épices (duck breast with honey). We didn’t have to wait long till our order arrived. The dish was beautiful presented and the portion was absolutely huge. The duck was perfectly cooked and very tender. Loved it!

It is definitely worth having a look inside also. The building does not only hold a restaurant, but is also a hotel. The place has been in the same family for generations and inside you’ll find memorabilia from its long and interesting history.

Brasserie L’Instant: “Burger place”

I guess this restaurant is great if you love burgers. If you order anything else, food is kind of mediocre. I ordered a gump salad (with shrimp and avocado salsa), which was not bad, but too bland for my taste. The burger my boyfriend ordered looked a lot more inspired than my salad. So if you want to visit this place, just order a burger.

The terrace is nice though, I always love eating outside. So it didn’t matter much that food took a little bit longer than we got accustomed to in Corsica.

La Voute: “Lovely restaurant which serves honest food”

La Voûte is a charming local restaurant in the town of Piana. Piana, besides from its lovely church, is not very memorable. Restaurant La Voûte serves really honest authentic food. We had dinner on the terrace the evening the French team played a European Championship match, so naturally the restaurant had provided a big screen to watch the tournament. Luckily the sound was turned down so the match wasn’t to distracting.

We went for the menu of the day (starter, main course, cheese, and dessert), which was both excellent and cheap. Wine included we only payed 61 euros for two persons. Portions were very big, so no need to fear that you’ll get hungry any time soon after having eaten at La Voûte.

As a starter I had the traditional Corsican fish soup. The fish of the day was presented on a plate by the waiter so we could choose the fish we liked most. I went for the dorade. The fish was super fresh but it would have been nice if the fish had been served with more vegetables than only potatoes.

For me personally, the main course arrived too soon after the starter. Would have been nice to have some more time to digest the really big bowl of soup. Especially because the meal included also a cheese course between the main course and the dessert. For dessert I had crème brûlée. You can’t go wrong with that in my book. Really very enjoyable meal for a very good price!

Le Tahiti: “Beach restaurant”

Cute bar and restaurant located on the beach of Porto. You can just come here for drinks and relax in the lounge chairs or have lunch or dinner at the tables. The location is great and the staff is very friendly.

We started our dinner with two mojito’s, which were ok, but did not contain that much alcohol. I ordered a salad with salmon, shrimp and avocado and my boyfriend went for a burger Napoleon. The salad was very basic. Good, but not very creative. My boyfriend liked his burger. We had some nice rosé, ideal for a hot summer evening.

As a dessert I had raspberry soup with vanilla ice cream. Really enjoyable.

Hotel Le Saint Erasme: “Great view, clean rooms”

The room was spacious, comfortable and clean. I especially enjoyed the very good shower. The airco worked really well (we needed that, because it was very hot) and we had a nice little balcony with a gorgeous view on the bay. Highly recommend booking a room with a view. It is worth it.

The swimming pool was rather small and I found it a bit of a hassle that I had to go trough the breakfast area to reach the pool. The breakfast is served outside so you can enjoy the marvelous view on the Mediterranean Sea. Breakfast wasn’t that great though. We got some bread, pastries, orange juice and yoghurt served at the table. The only spreads offered were jams. It is possible though to order some charcuterie or cheese for a small extra fee.

Our room didn’t have a refrigerator, which would have been nice, especially during the hot summer days. Wifi wasn’t good at all.

La Cigale: “Outstanding grilled mussels”

La Cigale is famous for its grilled mussels. And rightly so. They were excellent. So good that I had to go back and order them again. What a treat! The mussels were big and super tasty. My boyfriend, who isn’t that into mussels had a pasta with smoked salmon the first time and a salad with hot goat cheese. Both dishes were good, but I really have to recommend you try the mussels. You won’t regret it.

We ate on the terrace, which is nice in itself, but situated nearby a road that can be busy at day. In the evening (when the Spar on the other side of the road closes) I guess the amount of traffic will die down.

Service was friendly, although his English wasn’t that good. I also enjoyed some lovely artisanal ice cream from their ice cream bar.
