Hotel Latrabjarg: “Beautiful location”

We really enjoyed our stay in the Látrabjarg hotel. The room was very big and comfortable with a beautiful view on the mountains. Though I noticed the floor wasn’t as clean as could be expected. The bathroom was very clean though. The size of the sink in the bathroom amazed me, because it was that tiny. Just big enough to put two toothbrushes on it.

Staff was friendly. Wifi was very good ánd available in our rooms. Breakfast was basic, but I enjoyed the soft boiled egg and the fresh baked bread. Would definitely stay here again.

Edinborg: “Nice historic building”

Edinborg restaurant is situated near the water frond in a gorgeous historical building where the tourist office also is located. If weather permits you can sit outside and enjoy the breathtaking view on the mountains surrounding Ísafjördur.

Staff was very friendly and welcoming. We got a table close to the entrance, but that didn’t bother us. The restaurant was very busy since it was a saturday. Luckily we came early or else we would have had to wait for a table. So reservations are recommended in the weekend.

My friend went for the buffet option, which was definitely good value for money. Since I was not that hungry I went for the catch of the day. The fish was served in a pan with potatoes with a little salad on the side. I especially enjoyed the fresh bread with tomato and olive paste.

Edda Hotel Isafjordur: “Very basic hotel”

This hotel feels dated from the moment you set food in it. Your first contact with this hotel is carrying your suitcases up some stairs at the entrance. Why nobody thought of installing a ramp is unclear to me. The whole building looks like it got stuck in the seventies. With long, unwelcoming halls and very basic rooms (no decoration in our room whatsoever). If cosiness is not important to you, the basics are ok: the room is clean, the douche cabin in the bathroom looked very new and the beds are comfortable. There is no wifi in the room though.

Staff to me seemed not very competent, since there was a problem with our booking and they didn’t succeed in researching what went wrong. We left the hotel without knowing if it got sorted out.

Breakfast was fine, though. Enough options to choose from (cheese, meat, fish, yoghurt, fresh fruit). There were even some pancakes. I did miss some fresh bread though. There was only toast bread available.

Wifi only works in the lobby. When wifi stopped working my boyfriend asked to reset the modem, but the employee at the reception didn’t even know where the modem was.

If you’re just looking for a bed to stay in, this hotel is ok. I you look for a rememberable experience, this hotel is not for you.

Hotel Laugarholl: “Beautiful location on the country side”

Room was basic, but clean. There was only one painting in the room to decorate the white walls. The bed was very comfortable, I slept like a baby. Staff was very friendly. The hotel is beautifully located on the country side. Dinner was absolutely fantastic: best I have had in a hotel in Iceland so far. The buffet had so many things to choose from and not only traditional Icelandic food, but also Indian food. Loved the omelet too. It was clear that the cook prepared everything with love and great care.

Wifi only worked in the seating area of the hotel, which was fine by me, but since there were lots of people staying in the hotel, it got a little bit crowded.

We got to enjoy the naturally heated swimming pool and the hot tub. Both facilities were outside. The water was nice and warm. Very relaxing after a busy day of sightseeing. There were some algae in the water of the hot tub, which is normal, I guess, but made it a little less enjoyable for me.

All in all I would definitely recommend staying here.

Husid: “Really fresh fish”

Cosy restaurant in the center of Ísafjördur located in a beautiful historic building. Choices on the menu are limited: hamburgers, sandwiches, soup and fish. Atmosphere is great and it is possible to sit outside on a beautiful day. I chose the fish of the day which was very good. Nice and fresh, served with a baked potato and a sauce of butter and capers. Loved the salad with the fish. Portion was big, definitely worth the money. Service could be a bit more attentive though.

Daeli in Vididalur: “A beautiful location on the country side”

Nice hotel very beautifully located on the country side. Welcome was very friendly and we got some really good advice for activities in the region. Dinner was basic but very good, with a huge portion of soup and nice salmon. We enjoyed horse riding on a farm nearby which was recommended by the staff of the hotel. It was a wonderful experience.

Our room was nice, very clean and decorated in such a way to make you feel right at home. Beds were very comfortable. Wifi was not very fast, but you could use it in the room. Breakfast was simple. Some cheese, meat, dairy products and cereals. Nothing special but enough to get a good start of the day. The hotel also has a hot tub, but sadly we didn’t have time to enjoy this facility. My only real remark are the curtains. Way to thin to keep the morning light out and you know, in summer time the sun rises very early in Iceland. As a result I woke up too early.

Hotel Edda – Akureyri: “Great breakfast buffet”

Hotel Edda is located right next to the Botanic Gardens of Akureyri. Those gardens are definitely worth strolling through. Very beautiful en ideal for a picnic.

Our room in hotel Edda was spacious en clean. We even had a microwave and a kitchen sink (which we did not use). Curtains were thick enough to keep the sunlight out. Sadly the beds weren’t that good. Especially the cushions were very thin and in my opinion needed to be replaced. The water in the bathroom had a very noticeable odor of sulfur, which I didn’t like very much.

Staff at reception was friendly and professional. Hotel Edda had all the comfort needed: a bar, a restaurant and a nice variety of snacks you could buy for on the road. There was no wifi in the rooms though, only in a special lounge.

I really loved the breakfast buffet. Choices were the best we’ve had during our trip in Iceland up till now. I enjoyed tasting the different kinds of skyr and I always love smoked salmon for breakfast.

Naustid: “Great fish”

Restaurant Naustid is located at the harbour side very close to the whale watching facilities.

When we first entered restaurant Naustid we were a little bit confused if we could just go sit at a table or if we needed to order at the counter. By looking at what other customers did, we figured out you need to order at the counter first. You can look at the fish and choose whichever one you like. You get a number to take with you when you go sit at your table. Staff will bring your order to the table.

We both ordered skewers, because they looked absolutely delicious. And we were right, the fish in this restaurant is super fresh and very good. You really get the feeling your fish was just caught minutes ago. Really loved it.

Staff was friendly, but could improve there efficiency. We stood waiting for some time at the counter without someone taking our order. A little bit strange, because there were three people at the counter all doing different thing. A better organization of order taking can fix this.

Gullfoss: “Beautiful waterfall but very busy”

The waterfall in itself is absolutely gorgeous. If you’re lucky, you’ll even see a rainbow. There are lots of tourists over here, but in this case this also means: nice walkways and viewing platforms accessible for people in a wheelchair. Food in the cafe is ok. Lots of room to sit and it is even possible to eat outside.

Einar Jonsson Museum (Listasafn Einars Jonssonar): “Beautiful place in the heart of Reykjavik”

Excellent sculptures in a beautiful garden. There is no fee for visiting the garden and the sculptures are really amazing. Well worth a visit.
