Tuk Thai Urban Kitchen: “Not so great thai food”

It is always surprising to me that in Asia you can have excellent fast food at airports, whereas in Europe they try selling Asian foods, but hardly succeed in making them taste like the original. Granted TUK is a street food style restaurants with ready-made wok dishes. But I’ve had lots of street food which I enjoyed very much. I ordered the pad thai, which sadly turned out to be a mistake. Should have gone for the curry. The pad thai only vaguely resembled this popular Asian dish. The noodles were overcooked and not warm enough. A very sad dish and way too expensive for this disappointment.

Gelato Mania: “Lots of flavors”

Other reviews said Gelato Mania offers the best ice cream in Geneva, but since this was the only ice cream shop I tried during my stay in Geneva, I can’t compare. The ice cream was nice enough though, decent quality and lots of different flavors to choose from. I went for cinnamon and dark chocolate, both flavors were very good. I paid 5 francs for my ice cream, which I consider value for money, because the ice cream is clearly home made.

Yukinii: “Good all you can eat restaurant”

Yukinii is a chain that recently opened a new restaurant in Leuven. The restaurant lies in the Brusselsestraat, a five minutes walk away from the touristic heart of Leuven. This all you can eat concept is simple but effective: you order by tablet en minutes later your order appears on your table.

The restaurant really did a great job renovating the interior. From the outside, you would never guess that such a spacious and modern restaurant is hidden behind the facade of the building. I really like the entrance with the small water fountain and the name of the restaurant in neon lights. Lovely.

Food was good, very decent for an all you can eat restaurant. My only complaint is that the sushi rolls en the nigiri sushi were a bit too big: too much rice in comparison to the filling and toppings. Due to the amount of rice you got filled up more quickly, so I understand why the cook prepares the sushi like that.

Gosang: “Korean temple food”

This restaurant is specialized in boeddhist temple kitchen. I was invited here by some very nice Korean business partners for a lovely dinner. Our group was assigned a separate room, which was really convenient. We sampled traditional dishes in the way the monks would eat them. Monks, of course are vegetarians, so most of the dishes were vegetarian or vegan. Since the Koreans who invited us where afraid, we wouldn’t have enough to eat with only vegetables, they also ordered some salmon and galbi.

I really enjoyed that I could taste traditional temple food, although I have to admit I missed the spices in the food. Since monks prefer their food as pure as possible, they hardly add spices. Every dish was prepared with great care and beautifully presented. I especially loved the lotus flower japchae, but the fried ginseng really wasn’t my cup of tea. A really unforgettable experience!

Pho Bay Incheon: “Great noodle soup!”

I had a quick lunch at Pho at Incheon Aiport. Quite a pleasant experience, I have to say. The noodle soup with shrimp wontons was really good and I was served very quickly (important for an aiport meal). Only thing I had to complain about was that the seating area itself wasn’t very clean, but since this area was shared with other restaurants, I can’t fault Pho. The food was delicious and hot. A fine lunch!
