Bel Puur: “Typical Belgian cuisine”

We went for dinner at Bel Puur, because it was situated in the same building as our hotel. Bel Puur serves typical Belgian cuisine. It has a terrace in the front and one in the back with a little playground for the kids.

We choose to sit in the front terrace to enjoy the setting sun as long as possible.

Service could be more attentive. For instance, our table, though clearly dirty, wasn’t cleaned up, the stains were just covered by the paper placemats. And the waiter came back 3 times to clear our table.

I ordered scampi Bel Puur and my boyfriend ordered Koninginnenhapje. Dishes arrived after not too long a wait. The sauce of my scampi was served boiling hot though, so I almost burned my tongue. Food was decent but nothing exceptional.

This restaurant serves draft Westmalle, a regional specialty.

Strand Cafe DOK: “Great food, service is lacking”

We (four grown ups and three children) had lunch and dinner at the Strand Cafe DOK. The Cafe is great, nice atmophere, a large bar, a big playroom and a theater room for the children. While the chilren played we could enjoy our drinks and have a nice chat. Also loved that the toilets were very clean.

The food at the cafe was really excellent. Enjoyed my carpaccio at lunch very much, but when we asked the waiter to bring some bread, it never came. A shame for sure.

Our dinner started out fine. The children got their food very quickly, but the prosecco we ordered was really terrible. We sent it back, because we thought the bottle had been open too long, because the prosecco did not contain any bubbles. The new glasses we received had exactly the same problem. Our friend went back to the bar to get new ones, but even when straight from a new bottle the prosecco was awful. We drank it, but not with pleasure. After the prosecco we ordered a carafe of wine. The wine was ok, but the glasses really weren’t clean, a turnoff, for sure. I went back to the bar to switch the glasses and it was apparent to me the girl at the bar was stressing out and couldn’t keep up with orders at all. She even broke the glass I returned.

All in all, I loved the food, but I found the service lacking. Some waiters were clearly better trained than others. I got the feeling the staff was mostly inexperienced. It is a real shame, that the service isn’t up to par with the great food.

Hotel De Zeeuwse Kust: “Great hotel for families with children in a beautiful environment”

We had the pleasure of staying in this beautiful hotel not long after it opened. Everything was brand new and clean. We really enjoyed our rooms, which were large and full of light. Really loved that the room was decorated with a gorgeous photograph of the surrounding nature.

The room also had a small kitchen to prepare food and a separate small bedroom with a bunk bed for the children. We stayed at the ground floor, which was very convenient. You could go outsight trough the door or though the nice big window at the other side of the room. Bathroom was excellent, with a fantastic rain shower. Really loved it!

Breakfast in the main building of the Park was excellent. Lots of choice (English and continental breakfast) and fresh squeezed orange juice! Loved the ‘poffertjes’, a Dutch specialty, the fresh fruit and the scrambled eggs.

The grounds of the hotel were great too. Beautiful (and safe) playgrounds with wooden constructions for the children to play on. The hotel is just a short walk away from the beach and offers the possibility to hire bikes, a great way to explore the beauty of this lovely island.

Only remark I’ve got: the changing facilities for the pool were small and not very clean. I also found the pool itself not that great, but to be fair: the children loved it.

Highly recommend this hotel for families with children. Would definitely stay here again.

Marutama Ramen: “Great ramen!”

The best ramen I’ve had in Singapore! Really, really loved the ramen in this restaurant! I ordered karashi ramen with ajitsuke tamago en yaki gyoza as a side dish. Which was plenty of food to keep me going for a long time. The boiled and marinated egg was simply a delight. The yolk was perfectly cooked: still soft and runny.

Service was friendly and most importantly for a ramen restaurant very efficient. Highly recommend this restaurant to ramen lovers from all over the world. A warning though: at lunch time this place can get very crowded.

Brasserie de Vlegel: “Lovely terrace, mediocre food”

We went here on a gorgeous spring day, mostly to enjoy the lovely terrace. The terrace has a tropical vibe with palm trees en white sand. For children there is jumping castle and lots of toys to play with in the sand. We really enjoyed sitting in the sun and I have to recommend the sangría which was superb.

Brasserie de Vlegel had a big fire in their kitchen somewhere in February. The team worked very hard to repair all the damage, so the brasserie could reopen after only two months. Due to these unfortunate circumstances the menu was very limited. We could only choose between about ten very basic dishes.

I ordered a plain steak without any sauce. The steak was cooked as ordered (saignant), but I was a little disappointed by the very small side salad. Luckely I got more than enough fries. The food was ok, but served too cold. As if the waiter had forgotten to serve the dishes in time. The food of our friends was also too cold. A real shame, because I loved the summer vibe in this place.

Would go back for drinks, not for the food.

Haramiya: “Quick and pleasant lunch”

I went here for a quick lunch. I opted for one of the lunch specials: the salmon bibimbap. Price was very reasonable and the food was excellent. Staff was friendly and efficient. Ideal for a quick meal. Would definitely go back here. I would love to try the other dishes on the menu.

La Lorraine: “Lovely oysters”

We were staying in Luxembourg for a weekend and were looking for a nice place to have dinner on Easter Sunday, so after some wondering around in the streets of Luxembourg, we ended up in fish restaurant La Lorraine.

We were early for dinner (17.30u) and it was clear that the staff wasn’t complete yet. Only one waiter had to do everything and he got a little bit agitated when some other clients ordered extra fries and he couldn’t get through to the kitchen.

The interior of the restaurant is decorated with lots of wood an stone pillars. Classic, but very cozy. It was a little bit chilly though.

Our waiter was very friendly and we got to order quickly (to be fair, the restaurant at that time was almost empty, later on more people started to come in). We went for the express menu and started our meal with Breton cupped oysters. The oysters were presented beautifully and very good. A great start. My boyfriend ordered a beer an I went for the aperitif La Lorraine: crèmant de Luxembourg with liqueur from prunes. Very nice.

As the main course I got pollack and shrimps soufflé with vegetable tagliatelle. Wasn’t quite sure how the dish would look, but I wanted to try it anyway. My boyfriend stayed true to the classics and chose the chicken vol-au-vent with mushrooms.

Both dishes were fine, but not exceptional. I enjoyed the vegetable tagliatelle, but was hoping for more shrimps in the soufflé.

We skipped dessert, but got some cake and easter eggs on the house. In total we paid 78,60 euro’s, drinks included. A little bit pricy, but we had a nice dinner nonetheless.

Sakae Sushi: “A bit disappointing”

This conveyor belt sushi at Changi airport turned out to be a bit of a disappointment. The sushi on the belt was mediocre at best. We saw the same dishes passing several times. The touch screens to order extra sushi weren’t working and staff wasn’t that attentive when we wanted to order sushi which wasn’t on the belt. The sushi we ordered was better than the sushi on the belt, but I’ve had much better in other kaiten sushi restaurants.

Notre Dame Cathedral (Cathedrale Notre Dame): “Beautiful historical building”

Beautiful Cathedral with impressive stained glass windows. A must see when you visit Luxemburg city. The statue of the Virgin Mary, the patron saint of Luxembourg, is very small, but stems from the 17th century. Don’t forget to visit the crypt.

Ryoshi Sushi Ikeikemaru: “Ok conveyor belt sushi restaurant at Liang Court”

The sushi was decent but in no way exceptional. We ate here rather late in the evening, which can explain why the choices on the conveyor belt were rather limited and not so great. We ordered some sushi from the menu, which was way better than the sushi from the conveyor belt though. I must add that Royshi sushi offers some special sushi I never tried before in my life. So for the first time, I got to try kani miso (with crab and crab paste), tsubugai (shellfish) and nama sakura ebi don (small raw shrimp). I always enjoy it when I can try new dishes!

Service was fine. Really not a stand-out place in any way.
