Karlskirche: “Gorgeous baroque church”

Definitely worth the visit. Absolutely gorgeous place with amazing paintings. Since they are renovating the church, it is possible to take an elevator to the top of the dome so you can enjoy the beautiful artwork up close. Do not hesitate to take the elevator, you won’t regret it. If you aren’t afraid of hights you can climb even further up, to the lantern. The view is not worth it, but it is an exciting climb nonetheless. This church is an exquisite piece of architecture.

Vinimka: “Upscale winebar”

Really beautiful winebar with an excellent staff, beautifully located in the heart of the old town. Prices are very high though and most of the wines are only available by the bottle. That really is a shame, because when visiting a winebar I like to try different kinds of wines. Loved my glass of prosecco though!

Sky Bar & Restaurant: “Sky Bar”

This is an excellent place to enjoy a cocktail while watching the sun setting on Bratislava. The bar is located at the 7th floot and the view on the castle and St Martin’s church is very beautiful. Prices are a bit high (you also pay for the view), but well worth it. Cocktails are very imaginative with a fair amount of alcohol, not those watered down drinks you get elsewhere. You can sit outside or at the bar. Both are great but at the bar you get to see how the cocktails are prepared. I tried four different cocktails, because we visited twice. My absolute favourite was the pineapple basil tini. A perfect mixture to enjoy in such a lovely place.

Palmenhaus: “Beautiful location”

Palmenhaus is absolutely gorgeous. Although it was warm enough to eat on the terras, we prefered sitting inside to enjoy the beautiful greenhouse with the plants. Absolutely a top location to have lunch. I had asparagus with salmon and my boyfriend chose a Wiener Schnitzel. Food was ok, but nothing special. The food arrived rather quickly which made me think it was just heated. Service was friendly and correct.

Hotel SPIESS & SPIESS Appartement-Pension: “Nice hotel in a quiet neighbourhood”

Room was very clean and comfortable albeit a little too hot, but nothing the aircon couldn’t fix. The bathroom was very clean with a big bath. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Really loved the breakfast which was excellent and fresh with lots of different choices. The fresh fruit was my favorite. The scrambled eggs were cooked to order. The neighbourhood is very quiet, but the hotel is also close to the underground so it only takes a few minutes to reach the city center.

Would definitely stay here again.

UFO: “Lovely food, exceptional view”

Dining at UFO is a great experience. The view is really something else, since you are dining high above the ground with a gorgeous view on the castle and the historic center of Bratislava. The view alone makes it worth the visit, but if you’re into fine dining, please try the seven course meal. Portions are kept small so you can enjoy all the different tastes without eating too much. I adored the fact that the courses were all inspired by traditional cuisine. The slovakian wines which accompanied the meal were very well presented by a nice young lady with an excellent knowledge of wines.

I accidentally dropped the plate for the bread, staff was very easy to replace it and said it wasn’t a problem at all, although I felt quite bad about it.

We really had a glorious evening here and would definitely go back.

Lubin: “Lovely fish restaurant”

I found this restaurant through trip advisor. Because it had good reviews and it wasn’t too far away from our hotel, we decided to give it a chance.

We enjoyed a really lovely prosecco while looking at the menu. We only chose a main course, because we weren’t very hungry. Both the fish dishes we ordered were excellent and nicely served. Portions were a bit small though and if we would have been hungry we surely would have ordered dessert.

I was keen on trying some croatian white wine. The waiter recommended I’d try the Koziovic Malvazija, which was an excellent suggestion. I was so pleased with the wine that I ordered a second glass. Service was decent overall. I liked the fact that the fish was filleted by the waiters in the restaurant.

While we were eating, new guests kept arriving until the restaurant was full and their was a queue waiting to get seated. Since this was a weekday I highly recommend making reservations when you want to enjoy dinner here in the weekend.
